Hello my name is Miss Jessica Smith. I am happy to be a new teacher this year at St John Vianney School. I am originally from Green Bay, WI, and a devoted Packers fan! I Majored in Elementary-Middle School Education and Minored in Spanish at St Norbert College in DePere, WI. After graduating I taught Middle School Language Arts for one year, and after a year felt the call to enter into a year of missions work with the Salesian Missionaries in Tijuana, Mexico. My motivations were to serve the Catholic Church for a year, improve my Spanish skills, and put my teaching into practice in another setting. From August 2012-August 2013 I spent living in Catholic Community and serving with the Salesian Priests of St. John Bosco in Tijuana. My year of missions was an enriching and an educational experience and has inspired me in many ways as I return to a Catholic School setting to continue my teaching career. Especially after my year of missions, I am passionate about the importance of literacy in the lives of our students and know the vital role it plays in our society in means of getting a good education and job in the future. I am passionate about working with Middle-School students as this is a very important time in their lives not only academically but also socially and spiritually. I believe that it is my job not only to educate in the area of Literacy, but also to educate students about our Catholic faith, and to encourage them to make good decisions and become service-leaders in our Church and society today.
I am happy to be here at St John Vianney, and look forward to the blessings the school year will bring!
